This is my 5th visit to Japan. It is also one that I had the most number of days there; and making the most number of moves around the country on its public transport. Appreciate Chai Noi for initiating the trip and making the transport arrangements such as the Flight and JR Ticket, and being the accommodating room mate. Thanks to Teck Siew for her thoughtful and thorough planning and travelling tips that allowed me to venture into new places without the need to do much pre-trip planning. Grateful to Juejing, for his patience and for being a very reliable human GPS (at times, even better than GoogleMap)! Of course, a big thank you to the great company of the Wong and Koh families, too :)

(D12) Yokohama 横滨

Day 12: 14 December 2016

World's largest Chinatown

So, is it 中华街 or 香港路 ?

A more 'chinese'-looking building.

Typical Chinese tim-sum.

What type of language has "Lao Beijing" been translated into?

Not sure what's ahead of you and wanted to know... you can ask a fortune teller for some tips.

This is the least "chinese" shop in the Chinatown.

Along the coastal line

In the park sat the statue that represents the subject of a song - one of the most famous songs in Japan and is associated specifically with Yokohama. The song is called “Akai Kutsu” (“Red Shoes”)

The lyrics:
A young girl with red shoes was taken away by a foreigner. She rode on a ship from Yokohama pier taken away by a foreigner I imagine right now she has become blue-eyed living in that foreigner’s land. Every time I see red shoes, I think of her And every time I meet a foreigner, I think of her. When she misses Japan where she was born I imagine she stares at the blue sea and asks the foreigner if she can go home

Cup Noodle Museum

This is an interesting place where we learnt how the first cup noodle came about - what I can conclude is: The innovation was needs-driven and it's a result of good observation skills and application of the "SCAMPER" strategy!  Of course, perseverance and being able to think out-of-the-box are essential elements for the success, too! The inventor, Momofuku Ando, is a true example of a life-long learner.

What the 'chick'?
The first instant noodle is chicken flavoured ramen!

The types of instant noodles evolved over time!

Many visitors paid another 300 yen to customise their cup noodle.
